Birming "Ham"

Birming "Ham"

This “Magic City” ham is like an American riff on your favorite sweet & sour pork dish from the local Chinese Restaurant. Being made of 8 pounds of meat, along with the fact that it’s fairly easy to make, affords this crimson colored treat a place at the tailgating table today, and for years to come.

Glazed ham is a perfect dish to serve or cook inside the Fangating™Thermal Bag!

  • 8 pound fully cooked ham

  • 8 oz jar red maraschino cherries

  • 1 cup brown sugar

  • 1/2 cup orange juice

  • 1/2 tsp whole cloves

  • 1 cup mustard seeds

  • 2 medium oranges, sliced into 1/4” rounds and then halved

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.

  2. Place ham in a baking pan and bake for 30 minutes.

  3. Drain the cherries, reserving the syrup.

  4. Combine the brown sugar, cherry syrup, orange juice, cloves and mustard seeds in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Then lower heat to a simmer and reduce until thickened to a texture similar to maple syrup.

  5. Remove the ham from the oven (but do not turn it off!), slice it in a cross-cross pattern, and glaze with your cheery syrup with a basting brush.

  6. Return to oven for 15 min (at the same temperature).

  7. Finish the ham with a broil for 3 minutes, then serve immediately.

Broiling meats at the end of their respective bake times gives a nice bubbly crisp to the top of your roasts.
