Oh, the sandwich. Truly, a clever culinary invention. Who knew so many different, delicious combinations of foods and flavors could be so easily “sandwiched” between two slices of bread and eaten by hand? And when we say so many combinations, we truly mean it. We’ve managed to round up ten great sandwich recipes (plus a bonus one of honorable mention). But there are so many more that could and should make this list! So consider this part one. And one day soon we’ll be back with another ten of our favorites!
Dagwood Sandwich

1. Dagwood Sandwich

What isn’t on this sandwich?! You thought Arby’s had the meats? THIS puppy has the meats, and then some! Upon first glance at the ingredients, there could be some items here that might confuse you. But don’t be deterred. When they all come together, it’s sandwich magic! And then all you’ll have to worry about is how to get the whole thing in your mouth at once.

Grilled Tuna Melt

2. Grilled Tuna Melt

It’s hard to be beat this oldie but goodie. Whether it’s drunk food, late night food, or just a solid lunch, you really can’t go wrong. Serve it open faced or properly topped, your call. But either way, this one’s got both taste and texture going for it. Win win!

Chopped Cheese Sandwich

3. Chopped Cheese Sandwich

This is a true New York (Bronx to be exact) bodega sandwich at its best. It starts with ground chuck (burger meat) combined with cheese on the griddle and the goodness grows from there. It’s so stinkin’ good, it’s hard to eat just one…save for how full you’ll feel after you finish one. And for all its delectable simplicity, this sandwich is almost too good to be true. Thankfully it’s not and you can easily whip one up at home!

“Healthy” Philly Cheesesteak

4. “Healthy” Philly Cheesesteak

Under normal circumstances, Philly Cheesesteaks are anything but healthy, especially when your cheese of choice is the made-for-space kind that comes out of a whipped cream type bottle and has a name that ends in Whizz (with any number of z’s). But you can up the healthiness quotient but using quality, clean (chemical-free/”real food”) ingredients. So that’s exactly what we did with this and in our opinion, it tastes so much better!

Bacon Cubano Press

5. Bacon Cubano Press

A good Cuban sandwich can be hard to find. So thank goodness for this delectable recipe that you can make at home! And if you have a griddle or a panini press, even better! The secret ingredient in this recipe is the extra pork, which we’re serving up in the form on bacon. (Who doesn’t love bacon)!? And if you’re being extra indulgent, definitely add the bacon mustard. It’ll take you over the top!

The Classic Patty Melt

6. The Classic Patty Melt

This one is tricky. Why? Because some would classify this amazing dish as a burger, largely due to its burger patty. But it’s specifically not served on a bun, so can it truly be classified as a burger? The jury’s still out on this one. But what isn’t in question whatsoever is just how dang tasty a patty melt is. It’s like the ultimate in comfort food and will take you back to your childhood–or perhaps Marty McFly’s parents’ childhood–when diners were very much a thing.

Prosciutto Egg Salad Sandwich

7. Prosciutto Egg Salad Sandwich

There’s egg salad sandwiches. And then there’s those with prosciutto. Whole new level, people. And then we added some finely chopped Tuscan kale for crunch and bam! So much taste and texture happening at once, it’s almost too much. Emphasis on almost.

Turkey and Cranberry Club

8. Turkey and Cranberry Club

This is a sandwich easily served after Thanksgiving, but who’s to say you can’t serve this any other time?! No one, that’s who. And if you don’t have proper roasted turkey, you can either buy some or use deli meat! Either way, it’s really the flavors we’re looking for here, along with the comfort that usually accompanies this sandwich. Thanksgiving food is cozy food and when times are tough, comforting, cozy food is king.

Bitesize Cucumber Sandwiches

9. Bitesize Cucumber Sandwiches

We had to include a sandwich for our friendly vegetarians because it’s not just meat that goes well between two slices of bread. Oh no. Granted, this recipe is for those vegetarians who do, indeed, eat cheese. But you know what we’re saying. Equal opportunity sandwiching here, people! Sandwiches for all! This one goes great with a round of tennis or while watching Breakfast at Wimbledon…in 2021. 😢

Garlicky Pork Hero

10. Garlicky Pork Hero

This mighty tasty sandwich is like a French dip met a cheesesteak, fell in love, and had a baby, but that baby was made out of pork. Top that with some delicious roasted garlic and bacon gravy–yes, we said bacon gravy–and you’ve got yourself one heck of hero, hoagie, whatever you want to call it sandwich!

Classic Lobster Roll

BONUS: The Classic Lobster Roll

It’s arguable whether or not a lobster roll is a sandwich, so it’s our Miss Congeniality or our Honorable Mention of this sandwich roundup. This is a debate we’ve had for years: If it’s on a roll, such as the lobster in this recipe or a hot dog or brat, is it a sandwich? Does it qualify? (And for that matter, do sliders and burgers qualify as sandwiches)? Whatever the verdict is in your mind, the one thing we know to be 100% true 100% of the time is this: Lobster rolls are downright delicious. And if you’re able to get your hands on some lobster, we highly recommend you give this recipe a go!
